"The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II" - прямое продолжение первой игры Cold Steel, продолжающее историю спустя месяц после катастрофического события, ввергнувшего страну Эребония в гражданскую войну. После побега главного героя Рина из Тристы игроки отправляются в путешествие по Эребонии на настраиваемом дирижабле, чтобы воссоединиться с товарищами VII класса и разрешить растущий конфликт между Благородным альянсом и Имперской армией.
В игре сохранилась тактическая пошаговая боевая система с механизмом ARCUS, а также появился новый режим Overdrive, позволяющий связанным персонажам совершать три последовательные атаки. Игроки могут путешествовать по обширному миру верхом на лошади или на настраиваемом орбитальном мотоцикле Анжелики, предлагая разнообразные варианты исследования.
Отличительной особенностью этой ролевой игры является ее сюжетная связность - данные сохранений из первой игры переносятся, сохраняя выбор отношений и давая бонусы. Версия для ПК отличается улучшенной графикой с поддержкой ultrawide, турбо-режимом для ускорения игрового процесса, функцией мгновенного возобновления и на 50 % большим количеством английской озвучки, чем в консольной версии.
Действие игры происходит в той же вселенной, что и Trails in the Sky, расширяя богатую историю франшизы и рассказывая захватывающую историю о политических интригах, дружбе и цене войны. Благодаря усовершенствованной боевой механике и повествованию, ориентированному на персонажей, Cold Steel II представляет собой сложную JRPG, которая в значительной степени развивает предшественницу.
